Skardu Tour Packages 2026: Complete Guide With Prices & Itinerary

A cold desert under 8,000-metre peaks, lakes that mirror the sky and the rooftop plains of Deosai — Skardu is the journey most travellers call the best in Pakistan. This guide covers real 2026 package prices, a day-by-day itinerary, the best months to visit and every place worth your time.

Quick answer: A 6-day Skardu & Basho package with GB Adventure costs Rs. 34,000 per solo traveller or Rs. 80,000 per couple, covering transport, hotel and tour coordination. Visit between April and October; Deosai is open only from about June to September. Six days covers Shangrila, Shigar, Deosai and Basho Valley.

How much does a Skardu tour package cost?

Our most-booked Skardu trip is the 6-day Skardu & Basho package at Rs. 34,000 per solo traveller and Rs. 80,000 for a couple, including transport, accommodation and tour coordination. Travellers who want both great valleys choose the 8-day Hunza & Skardu Megatour at Rs. 42,000 solo or Rs. 100,000 per couple. Short on time? Our 5, 7 and 8-day by-air Skardu packages fly you straight in and are priced on request. Personal expenses, meals (unless agreed) and optional activities are not included. All prices are from our live tour packages for the 2026 season.

What places should I visit in Skardu?

Shangrila (Lower Kachura Lake) is Skardu's postcard — a heart-shaped lake ringed by orchards and the famous Shangrila Resort. A short drive further, Upper Kachura Lake is wilder and quieter, with trout and boat rides under poplar trees. Shigar Fort, a 400-year-old restored palace, and Khaplu Palace show Baltistan's royal heritage. Deosai National Park — the second-highest plateau on Earth at about 4,114 m — brings Sheosar Lake, wildflowers and Himalayan brown bears in summer. Add the pine forests and meadows of Basho Valley, the dunes of the Katpana Cold Desert, turquoise Satpara Lake and the 150-foot Manthoka Waterfall, and Skardu easily fills a week.

When is the best time to visit Skardu?

April to October is the visiting season for Skardu — every road, lake and valley is open, and each month has a different character.

April – May: Apricot and cherry blossom across Baltistan, snow still crowning the peaks, cool 10–20°C days and thin crowds. Deosai is still closed.
June – August: Peak season — warmest weather (up to 28°C in town), Deosai fully open with wildflowers, all jeep tracks running. Book early; hotels fill and flights sell out.
September – October: Golden autumn — poplars and orchards turn amber, skies are at their clearest and crowds thin out. Deosai closes as the first snow returns.
November – March: Deep winter. Skardu is stark and beautiful but severe (nights well below −10°C), road journeys get hard and only flights connect reliably. For experienced winter travellers only.

How many days are enough for Skardu?

Six days is the sweet spot by road and matches our Skardu & Basho package: two days for the lakes and town sights, a day each for Shigar, Deosai and Basho, and the road journeys without rushing. Flying in? Five days by air covers the same highlights because you skip roughly 40 hours of road travel. With eight days, combine Skardu with Hunza on the Megatour instead of repeating sights.

What is the day-by-day Skardu itinerary?

Our 6-day Skardu & Basho package follows this plan, built around Skardu's headline attractions:

Day 1 — Arrival in Skardu: Reach Skardu by road or flight, settle into the hotel, evening walk at Satpara Lake and the bazaar.
Day 2 — Shangrila and Upper Kachura: Both Kachura lakes — resort gardens and boating at Shangrila, then the quieter Upper Kachura for trout and lakeside tea.
Day 3 — Shigar Valley: Drive to Shigar Fort and the royal gardens, with the cold desert dunes on the way back.
Day 4 — Deosai National Park: Full-day jeep crossing of the Deosai plains to Sheosar Lake, watching for marmots, wildflowers and — with luck — brown bears.
Day 5 — Basho Valley: Forest roads up to Basho's meadows and streams, the greenest corner of the Skardu region.
Day 6 — Kharpocho Fort and return: Sunrise climb to Kharpocho Fort above the Indus, then begin the return journey or fly out.

Customisation is free — routes, dates and pace can be adjusted for families, couples and groups on our packages page.

How do I reach Skardu from Islamabad?

Skardu has two doors. By air, direct Islamabad–Skardu flights take about one hour over the Karakoram — spectacular, but weather can delay or cancel them, so keep a buffer day. By road, it is roughly 640 km: the Karakoram Highway to Jaglot, then the mountain road along the Indus into Skardu — about 20 to 24 hours of driving, normally split over two days. From June to October the seasonal Babusar Pass route through Naran cuts the journey and adds the whole Kaghan Valley to the trip. GB Adventure packages handle all transport, so you never have to negotiate vehicles on the road.

What should I pack for a Skardu trip?

Skardu town feels mild in summer, but Deosai, Basho and the high lakes turn cold within the same day — pack a warm jacket in every month. Sturdy walking shoes for fort climbs and lakeside trails, sun protection and sunglasses for intense high-altitude light, and a power bank for long road days are essentials. Add gloves and thermals for April, October and any winter flight, and motion-sickness tablets if winding mountain roads bother you.

Is Skardu good for families and couples?

Yes — Skardu suits families and couples better than almost any high-mountain destination in Pakistan. The main sights sit close together, hotels range from budget to luxury resorts, and the by-air packages remove the long road days entirely. Couples book the Rs. 80,000 two-person 6-day package for private rooms with fully coordinated transport.
